A Disgrace!

After 8 hours travelling, the Preston support were told by stewards at the ground to turn back as the fixture had been called-off due to a frozen pitch. Disgracefully, referee Iain Williamson concluded that the playing surface was unsafe for him, his assistants and the two sets of players to run on. This was after he had given the go-ahead at 4pm, when he had initailly inspected the pitch. So, he thought that he would let Preston fans complete their long journey and also wait for a lot of the home following arrive before informing the gathering crowd that there would be no match played. it is estimated that nearly 300 Preston fans had made thr journey, I myself had arrived by then only to be told to turn around and out of the car park.

Understandably livid Preston boss Billy Davies said "To travel all this way and then to get here to be told the games off, it's a joke". "This club and its great fans have been shown no respect", he added on his way out of Devon.

To conclude, it was an absolute disgrace and Mr. Williamson had only aided the ridicule of refereeing in the English game in its present state. This Christmas has seen the most diabolical display of official with some important, obvious decisions overlooked. The postponement of this game, at the very last minute by completely inconsiderate Iain Williamson of Berkshire, ranks very highly amongst some of the worst I've known, like many the controversies in football over the last few days. They then wonder why they have no respect on the pitch - they certainly don't on the terraces!
