Plymouth Argyle assistant coach John Carver is on the brink of joining new Sheffield United manager Gary Speed at Bramall Lane, BBC Devon understands.The duo have previously worked together at Newcastle United, where Carver was assistant to the late Sir Bobby Robson.
Carver is effectively the number three coach at Plymouth, under manager Peter Reid and head coach Paul Mariner.
In January, the 45-year-old turned down the opportunity of working with Burnley boss Brian Laws at Turf Moor.
Carver has been at Home Park since December 2009, when he was appointed as assistant coach to Paul Mariner.
