Barker set for Southend stay

Plymouth manager Peter Reid has cleared the way for Chris Barker to extend his stay at Southend. The 30-year-old left-back has spent a month on loan with Paul Sturrock's side, a spell which expires following the Shrimpers' clash with Bradford on Friday. However, Reid expects talks to take place in the coming days over a deal for the rest of the season. "I have no objection to that," he told Herald Sport. "I should imagine we will have a chat with Southend later this week." Another left-back could be leaving Home Park after Reid revealed Jim Paterson's trial with Greek Super League club Kavala has resulted in the player being offered a permanent stay. "I think they have offered a deal to him, from what I hear from the agent who set this up," Reid said.
