Plymouth battle back to win at Crewe

Leaders Plymouth came from behind to extend their unbeaten run to 14 games with a 2-1 win at Crewe.

The Cheshire side were ahead through Alex Kiwomya but George Cooper's penalty miss proved costly as Craig Tanner levelled before the break and Graham Carey grabbed a second-half winner as Argyle made it 12 wins from their last 14 games.

Without injured regular strike duo Ryan Lowe and Chris Dagnall, the Railwaymen deployed former Ilkeston Town youngster Dan Udoh alone up front

But they were far from cautious with their approach and caught the leaders out when Kiwomya fired home in the 16th minute.

The Chelsea loanee latched onto a lofted pass by James Jones, before bending the ball into the corner.

Crewe could have doubled their lead when Jones was tripped by former team-mate David Fox but Cooper hit his 38th-minute spot kick straight at Luke McCormick.

Cooper then clipped the bar, but Argyle made the most of their let-offs when Carey teed up Tanner, who despatched a right-footed effort into the top corner in the 41st minute.

Derek Adams' side came out of their shell after the restart.

Yet Crewe held firm at the back and had offered the leaders little sight of the goal, until leading scorer Carey swept substitute Jake Jervis' pull-back into the corner after 74 minutes.

Crewe were not done though and McCormick used a leg to divert Cooper's angled shot away before Cooper drove an injury-time free kick inches over.
