"We would like to wish David every success," manager Bobby Williamson told the clubs official website.
"He has been a tremendous servant for Argyle and leaves with our best wishes.
"A lot of guys are rightly legends at this club because of what they have achieved and it is difficult to move players on and bring others in, but it has to be done."
