Plymouth Argyle chairman Sir Roy Gardner has resigned in protest at the latest boardroom reshuffle within the financially troubled League One club.It was announced on Christmas Eve that executive director Keith Todd would relinquish his role from 1 January.
But Gardner said: "I have not been adequately consulted by the board on this matter - and have not given my agreement to the announcement.
"I have no alternative but to resign as chairman with immediate effect."
Former Manchester United plc chairman Gardner, who with Todd was an equal part of the joint Japanese-led 51% majority shareholding which took control at Home Park in July 2009, added: "I take this step with great regret and will make a further statement in due course."
It was announced on Friday that former chairman Paul Stapleton would take over as executive director on an interim basis.

Argyle face the threat of being wound up next year, if they fail to pay £760,000 in unpaid tax to HM Revenue & Customs.
Gardner has resigned as chairman and director of the board at Plymouth Argyle (Holdings) Limited, Plymouth Argyle Football Club and Home Park Properties Limited with immediate effect.
His original deal secured both him and Todd a 13% share, with Japanese businessman Yasuaki Kagami taking 38%.
Gardner's resignation will increase speculation that former Leeds United and Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale is to take a role with the club.
