HEAD coach Paul Mariner hopes Plymouth Argyle's transfer embargo will be lifted by the weekend.

Mariner admitted it 'was very important' the ban on signing new players be removed before the trip to Queens Park Rangers in the Championship on Saturday.

He is short of options in several positions, but especially in central defence after Marcel Seip and Krisztian Timar were loaned out to Sheffield United and Oldham Athletic, respectively, last week.

But the Pilgrims' fragile financial state has been boosted after Argyle's 0-0 draw against Newcastle United in the FA Cup, at Home Park on Saturday.
