Following a sapping spell of five games in 15 days up until last Saturday's 1-1 home draw with Leicester, Mariner said: "We gave the players Monday off and Wednesday off. We worked very hard on Tuesday and the spirit seems to be as it always is.
"They trained very well [on Thursday] and we hope a little bit of rest will put some zip back in their legs.
"We've been working on sharpness and the way Sheffield United play and planting seeds in the players' heads for the weekend."
