Banton missing for Argyle

Plymouth will be without new recruit Jason Banton when they host League One Port Vale in their FA Cup third-round replay.

Argyle paid a transfer fee for the first time in four years to sign the winger from Crystal Palace last week but Banton is cup-tied having featured in the competition for MK Dons during a loan spell and he is unavailable to face Micky Adams' men.

Sheridan could turn to winger Ryan Thomas or Rommy Boco to fill the void left by Banton but Tyler Harvey is also unavailable having been on loan at Salisbury when the original fixture took place.

John Sheridan has also selected former Barnet goalkeeper Jake Cole in the Pilgrims' cup ties this season so he is set to return to the starting line-up at Home Park in place of Luke McCormick.

Port Vale will have to make defensive changes.

Jack Grimmer was thrown straight into the team for his full debut against League One leaders Brentford on Saturday but the Fulham teenager was not registered with the club for the initial tie on January 5 - a 2-2 draw at Vale Park - so he is ineligible in Devon on Tuesday night.

With Liam Chilvers out injured, Chris Robertson ill and Carl Dickinson absent for personal reasons at Griffin Park, Joe Davis partnered Grimmer at the heart of defence against the Bees on his return from a loan spell with Luton. Chilvers and Robinson are being monitored and manager Micky Adams hopes to have at least one of them back in contention.

Victory for Vale would set up a home tie against Adams' former club Brighton in round four.
