Plymouth V Portsmouth at Home Park - Match Preview

Hayes set for home bow

Plymouth are set to hand Paul Hayes a home debut in the televised clash with Portsmouth as they search for their first win in a month.

The last week has seen the Pilgrims lose to arch-rivals Exeter and then exit the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the hands of Swindon, with Hayes starting both clashes, and the Brentford loanee is set to line-up against Pompey.

Jake Cole was given the chance to impress in goal on Tuesday night at The County Ground but Luke McCormick is likely to be given the nod again.

Manager John Sheridan, whose side last won on September 7, experimented with a new central defensive partnership of Curtis Nelson and Neal Trotman and the pair will hope to keep their places with Paul Wotton and Guy Branston having sat out in midweek.

Portsmouth have a host of injury concerns ahead of the trip.

Marcos Painter is doubtful with a calf problem and fellow defender Danny East is struggling with a hamstring strain.

Midfielder Simon Ferry is edging closer to a return after missing two matches with a hamstring injury, but the Home Park clash may come too soon, while up front Tom Craddock remains doubtful with a knee problem and David Connolly is set to miss out again with a calf strain.

Striker Patrick Agyemang returns to the starting line-up after coming off the bench to score in the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Oxford.
