Plymouth 2-1 Burton Albion- Match Report

Walton moves Greens off basement

Plymouth skipper Simon Walton crashed home an 89th minute penalty to secure a 2-1 win over Burton and move Carl Fletcher's side off the bottom of the Football League.

Walton coolly slotted his second goal of the game after on-loan Wolves winger Ashley Hemmings was fouled by Andres Gurrieri.

His first put Argyle ahead in the 47th minute, as he drilled a 20-yard drive home following a mazy run from inspirational teenage winger Luke Young.

Walton has now scored nine goals for the resurgent Greens, buoyed by the return of midfielder Paul Wotton.

Calvin Zola claimed his 10th goal of the season to make it 1-1 in the 74th minute.

Argyle failed to clear a steepling Cleveland Taylor free kick from wide out on the left which looked to be going out before Tony James headed the ball back across goal at the far post.

Justin Richards headed the ball on and Zola swooped to nod in.

Argyle could have gone 2-0 ahead after Hemmings' short corner to Young on the left.

The 18-year-old looped the ball up and over Albion keeper Ross Atkins only for it to bounce off the inside of the post.

Burton scrambled the ball clear but only as far as Wotton, whose 25 yard angled drive was tipped around the foot of the post by Atkins.
